Yes. That’s a real picture of me.
My name is Devon Brown and I’ve been an online entrepreneur since 2001.
Notice that I didn’t say I’ve been a SUCCESSFUL online entrepreneur since 2001, only that that’s when my journey started.
I didn’t start off having the authority or credibility to speak to 1,000’s of people from the stage.
Actually, quite the opposite…
During
my first few years in this industry, I spent about $40,000 jumping from
opportunity to opportunity trying different ways of making money
online.
And before you knew it…
Bankruptcy.
Yup.
I was 23 years old and filing for bankruptcy because I’d tried a dozen different “make money” opportunities.
None of them worked.
At least, they didn’t work for me.
Fast forward to 2005 – when I had my first big “AH-HA!”
A buddy of mine invited me to a teleseminar that was taking place one evening.
(Side note: for those of you not old enough to remember teleseminars, just think of webinar, but on your home phone instead of your computer – hahaha)
Anyway…
I hopped on the teleseminar, and what I heard BLEW MY MIND!
The gentleman giving the presentation spoke about a way of making money online that required:
No Creating your own product
No Building your own websites
No Techie stuff
No Taking weeks to get started
No Huge barriers to entry
No Prior experience needed
No Customer support
No Payment processing
As I’m sure you’ve already figured out, the gentleman leading the teleseminar was describing… AFFILIATE MARKETING.
This was my first time hearing about it, and I just “knew” that this was going to be what would catapult me to success.
Spoiler alert… I failed miserably at this too! HAHA
Here’s what happened.
I jumped in with both feet!
I found a product that I just “KNEW” would convert well.
My commission, each time that product sold, would be $50.
So… I found a traffic source that would allow me to get 100 quality visitors to my affiliate link for $100.
I figured that if I could make just 4 SALES, I’d double my money!
So… I spent the $100 and got the traffic.
And you know how many sales I made?
ONE!
One measly sale!
I’d spent $100 to make $50 (that’s not how it’s supposed to work).
But I refused to give up!
I went back and found a different product to promote!
This one paid out $100 per sale.
Surely, if the product was more expensive and paid out more in commissions, more people would want to buy it… right?
WRONG!
I spent another $100 to get 100 visitors to my affiliate link (with the hope of just making 2 sales).
And you know how many sales I made?
If you guessed ZERO, you’d be right!
“WTF?!?!” I thought to myself.
Why isn’t this affiliate marketing stuff working?
That was my life as on online marketer over a decade ago.
Fast forward to today, and it’s not uncommon for me to pocket $460/day or more in online commissions while I’m sleeping.
So, here’s the question.
What changed?
What changed between 2005 and Today?
The answer…
I discovered that making affiliate commissions is NOT about selling affiliate products! Let me say that again because it’s really important…
The thing that changed…
The reason I went from making $0 to regularly making $100’s in a single day…
Was that I discovered that making affiliate commissions is NOT about selling affiliate products!
WHAT?!?
How the hell does that even make sense?
Allow me to explain…
You see, the TRUTH (which I didn’t understand back then) is that there are several factors that go into whether or not a human being makes a purchase.
Lean in a little closer, because this is high level stuff…
Whether or not someone decides to buy something online, is dependent upon factors that include (but are not limited to):
- Who’s telling them to buy the product (a stranger vs. someone they know).
- The number of times the person has seen the product/offer.
- Their current financial situation, and
- How well that product/offer speaks to THEM and their current challenges and desires
So here’s the thing…
If your efforts don’t account for the all the factors I just listed, the chance of you making an affiliate sale is about 500% LESS than the likelihood that I’ll make a sale (assuming I’ve accounted for all the factors I just listed).
Lets dive a litle deeper.
Here’s how it normally works….
Step 1: You go to Clickbank, JVZoo, or WarriorPlus
Step 2: You find a product you think people might like
Step 3: You order some traffic from a solo-ad seller or one of the resources shown at UndergroundTrafficReport.com – and send that traffic to your affiliate link.
Step 4: You get disappointed when no sales come through
You see, the problem here is that you’ve got things backwards.
You’re focused on trying to sell an affiliate product.
But that’s not how $100K affiliates do it.
We don’t focus on trying to sell AN affiliate product.
We focus on building an AUDIENCE/LIST of people interested in a certain topic matter (niche).
Because we know that if we have a HUGE audience/list of people
interested in a certain topic matter, then we can LITERALLY find DOZENS
of products to earn commissions with.
Let me say that again…
Becoming a $100K affiliate is NOT about finding ONE product. It’s about having an AUDIENCE.
Remember what I said earlier about the factors that go into whether or not people purchase…
The more I can touch that audience (with email messages) the MORE familiar they become with me, and the MORE likely they are to buy something I recommend.
The more I follow-up with them, the MORE likely I am to message them at the EXACT right time that THEY are ready to purchase.
The more offers/products I can introduce to them, the more likely they are to BUY the one that speaks to THEM the most!
So you see…
You and I aren’t even playing the same game.
I’m not trying to sell ONE affiliate product.
Instead, here’s what I’m doing…
STEP 1: I choose a niche. Usually I choose a broad/popular niche like Weight-Loss/Fitness, Personal Development, or Making Money Online.
The reason for this is because these are BILLION dollar niches and there are ALWAYS a bunch of GREAT affiliate products to promote in these niche markets.
STEP 2: I go to Clickbank, JVZoo, or WarriorPlus and find some products that are selling well in that niche. Then I grab/create my affiliate link for these products. This takes me all of 5 minutes.
STEP 3: I order niche-specific traffic from one of the vendors listed at UndergroundTrafficReport.com
STEP 4: I send the traffic to an opt-in page that I created in no time flat by using The 12 Minute Affiliate System.
The opt-in page asks people to opt-in if they’d like some information on whatever the niche is that I’ve chosen. Now I’m BUILDING MY LIST (my biggest asset).
STEP 5: When traffic comes to my opt in page, I’ve pre-loaded my auto-responder with about 20 WEEKS worth of follow-up messages to go out automatically.
Each week, I’m promoting a new/different affiliate product (don’t
worry, I’ll show you where to get the messages so that you DON’T have to
write them yourself).
STEP 6: Now, my auto-responder is doing most of the follow-up & relationship building work for me while I’m sleeping.
STEP 7: Once a week, I’ll go to Clickbank, JVZoo, or WarriorPlus and I’ll look for new/hot offers in my niche.
If I find one, I’ll take all of 20 minutes and send a few emails to the people whose email addresses are on my email list!
STEP 8: If one of the new products I find sells well, I’ll add it to my automatic follow-up sequence so that my auto-responder starts promoting it for me automatically!
